The Barber of Seville - Synopsis
The opera begins with a group of musicians playing at the beautiful Rosina’s window. One of these musicians is actually a Count in disguise, who is trying to get Rosina to love him for himself, and not his money! However, this Count Almaviva, disguised as the poor musician Lindoro, has his work cut out for him, Dr Bartolo is trying to marry Rosina! So what does the Count do? He asks Figaro, the town barber, for help. Figaro suggests that the Count sing a song for Rosina, and so he does. To his surprise, Rosina starts singing back, and after the Count declares his love for her, she begins to respond…only to be distracted, leaving the Count’s declaration of love unanswered! And so the Count turns to Figaro again, hoping for a new idea. And in the next scene, Rosina’s true feelings of love for this stranger are revealed! Then, Figaro overhears Dr Bartolo’s conversation with Don Basilio that he wants to marry Rosina the following day. If the Count wants to marry Rosina, he’s going to have to work hard (and work quickly!) to overcome all these obstacles! Good luck, Count!
A barber with six hands??
OKay, so I was looking for songs from Barber online and I ran across this: Los Angeles Guitar Quartet doing the overture. It’s amazing how different the song sounds in guitar form.
